One of the most common issues tourists face when travelling is pickpocketing. Certain cities around the globe have a notorious reputation for this petty crime, and we’ve listed 18 hotspots where you’ll want to keep a tight grip on your belongings.

Barcelona, Spain

Last year, there were “nearly 9.9 million” tourists in Barcelona, according to Statista, which is a lot of people vulnerable to crime. A vibrant city known for its art, architecture, and sunny beaches, Barcelona is unfortunately, also infamous for pickpocketing. La Rambla, the bustling pedestrian street, is a magnet for tourists and, consequently, for pickpockets.

Rome, Italy

The Eternal City attracts millions with its ancient ruins, Vatican treasures, and delectable cuisine. However, Rome is also a haven for pickpockets, particularly around major attractions like the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, and St. Peter’s Basilica.
